Visit of Ambassador Jeanne Crauser to Rwanda
In the framework of the first official Luxembourg National Day reception in Kigali since the opening of the Embassy in August 2024, Mrs. Jeanne Crauser, non-resident Ambassador of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg to Rwanda, visited the country from 21 to 25 June 2025.
In Kigali the program included a constructive exchange on bilateral cooperation and regional dynamics, including the conflict in Eastern DRC, with the minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Olivier Nduhungirehe. Meetings with the minister of State for Local Government, Hon. Marie Solange Kayisire, as well as the minister of State for Education, Hon. Claudette Irere allowed to reaffirm Luxembourg’s long-standing support for Rwanda’s national priorities. The programme in Kigali also included a working lunch with the UN Resident Coordinator as well as representatives from UNDP and WFP.
Ambassador Crauser also paid her respects by laying a wreath at the Kigali Genocide Memorial. Official meetings in Kigali were followed by a two-day field visit to the Northwestern province of Rwanda to witness projects supported by the Luxembourg Development Cooperation. The delegation visited :
- the Bushoka-Nyanga Water Supply System, rehabilitated under the Pro-Poor Development Basket Fund, providing today clean water to Makoro, a densely populated settlement, as well as to key institutions such as Ntaruka Health Centre and four schools serving nearly 4,000 students.
- Kigali Farms, supported by the LuxAid Demonstration Fund, a social enterprise which fosters nutrition, income generation, and environmental sustainability through composting, outgrower mushroom kits and climate-controlled button mushroom production.
- University of Rwanda – Clonal Technology Facility, a cornerstone of Rwanda’s reforestation and restoration strategy, which once operational, will produce three million clonal plantlets annually to rehabilitate degraded forest lands within Private Forest Management Units (PFMUs).
- Community-Managed Tree Nursery, which aim to produce 40,000 agroforestry trees. Its dual impact will restore surrounding farmland and strengthen livelihoods in adjacent communities.
- Discussion with the Mayor of Rubavu and the Deputy Mayor of Rutsiro
- Kanyinya TSS, a pilot school for blended learning in TVET, exploring how technology-enhanced education is transforming classroom experiences and improving knowledge retention and student employability.
