Rwanda launches FinTech Centre at Inclusive FinTech Forum 2026

During the Inclusive FinTech Forum 2026, the Ministry of ICT and Innovation (MINICT) officially launched the Rwanda FinTech Centre, an initiative aimed at supporting the development of Rwanda’s financial technology ecosystem. The Centre has been established through cooperation between the Kigali International Financial Centre (KIFC), MINICT and the Luxembourg Development Cooperation.

The Inclusive FinTech Forum is an international platform that brings together policymakers, regulators, investors, financial institutions and technology innovators to discuss developments in digital finance and financial inclusion. The 2026 edition was held at the Kigali Convention Centre and focused on strengthening partnerships and expanding access to financial services, particularly in emerging markets.

The launch of the Rwanda FinTech Centre reflects ongoing cooperation between Luxembourg and Rwanda in the area of financial sector development. Drawing on the experience of the Luxembourg House of Financial Technology (LHoFT) and Rwanda’s evolving fintech ecosystem, the initiative seeks to support innovation, facilitate knowledge exchange and contribute to the development of financial services.

According to sector data presented during the Forum, Rwanda’s fintech ecosystem currently comprises more than 100 companies operating across a range of activities. While payment and lending services represent a significant share of the market, opportunities for further development exist in areas such as savings, investment products, digital banking and insurance.

The establishment of the FinTech Centre aims to provide a platform for collaboration among public and private stakeholders, support entrepreneurship and facilitate connections between innovators, investors and financial institutions. The Centre is also expected to contribute to strengthening the enabling environment for fintech development and investment.

Through this initiative, Rwanda seeks to further develop its position as a regional hub for financial innovation and to support broader efforts aimed at expanding access to financial services and promoting inclusive economic development.

The Support to the Development of the Kigali International Financial Centre project is financed by the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and implemented by LuxDev, the Luxembourg Development Cooperation Agency.
